Setting up National Associations
Some important steps to setting up a national association are as follows:
- Get interested parties together to share ideas and network together
- Decide to form an association
- Get as many stakeholders involved from the start as this encourages ownership
- As there are palliative care associations already in existence you do not need to start from scratch. APCA can help you with Aims and objectives along with a basic constitution for a national association, which can then be adapted to fit the context of the new association
- The new association will need to be registered either as a charity or an NGO
- Networking with other organisations is vital
- APCA is able to put new associations in touch with more established associations that can play a mentoring role
