Dr Joseph F. O'Neill

co-opted to the Board USA

Joe O'Neill, M.D., M.S., M.P.H, has devoted his professional life to the fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly for those who lack access and resources for treatment. He helped design and directed the U.S. government's domestic HIV/AIDS treatment programme and recently was the architect and deputy director of the U.S. government's PEPFAR initiative. He has served in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in the State Department, and in the White House. Trained as an internist, he holds faculty positions at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He recently stepped down from his position as President and CEO of Orchestra Therapeutics, a California-based biotech company working on vaccine therapies for HIV and autoimmune diseases. He, under the patient direction of Dr. Liz Gwyther, is completing an M.Phil in Palliative Medicine at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
